An Eventful Evening at Wye Leisure on Thursday 18th July

At around 9:00pm on Thursday evening, Wye Leisure had an incident where a small electrical socket in a roof void started smouldering causing the activation of the fire alarm. On initial inspection from the duty manager as a safety precaution in-line with our procedures, an evacuation of the building was made.

When a fire alarm triggers at Wye Leisure, it is automatically sent to a control room who mobilised two fire crews. They attended the scene to give their expertise on the situation, and fire crews assisted with the clean-up.

Our Electricians also attend site and ensured that the electric to this area was isolated and the area was made safe.

Further to this, our full maintenance team have attended the site this morning and done a full inspection of the area and dealt with the individual, faulty electric point.

Wye Leisure would like to make all our customers aware that the club is open and running as normal and would like to thank all parties involved, including our great team here at the club with the smooth and efficient handling of the situation.

Family Area – Spa Pool Maintenance

As part of our on-going maintenance work, we would like to let all of our club users know that during the week commencing Monday the 8th of July 2013, that one of the spa pools in the family pool hall will be closed whilst we undertake essential maintenance work.  These works will take approximately 4-5 weeks to complete.

We will fully cordon the area off from the public whilst these works are undertaken, but there may be some noise disruption, for which we apologise in advance!

Within the scope of work we will be replacing some of the pipework linking the spa pool to the filtration system, replacing / repairing the structure around the spa and we will ensure to open the area back up as quickly as possible.

ALL other areas and facilities within the family pool halls will be open as normal.

Thanking you in advance for your understanding!

Brockhampton Cricket Club - Wye Leisure Marquee

(Left to Right) – New Marquee, Club House, Changing Rooms

A few months back we were approached by Roy Wargen from Brockhampton Cricket Club about their Marquee.  The British weather being what it is, had taken its toll one stormy night and had un-rooted their old marquee, lifting the complete unit from the ground, landing it in a tree rendering it useless.

The marquee is used on larger matches and events ran at the club and with pending matches we are proud to say Wye Leisure was able to help out Brock’ with getting a new marquee just in time!

Correct your posture, balance and burn 20-25%  more calories on a treadmill?Getting his cardio in shape

We asked one of our Personal Trainers, David gordon to look at the impact of correct posture whilst using the treadmill…  Here is what he said:

Working in the gym, provides me with a fantastic opportunity to help members deliver their fitness goals. I regularly see members hold onto the front or side handrails of a treadmill, especially when they are walking on an incline. This is common, as walking on a moving belt isn’t really second nature and it can take time to get used to it. However, it is important to note that there are many problems created by holding onto a treadmill most notably: postural problems; reduced balance and a reduction in calories being burned

TOUGH MUDDER –

TEAM M.A.R.S Training Update

With just under 3 months to go until the event, the team are stepping up their training efforts. Not only are the team training individually on a daily basis, once a week they are meeting and training as a team, challenging themselves with cross country runs, tabata training  and circuits to try and prepare themselves for what has to come on the day.

Fundraising attempts are also coming along well with the Team almost half way there to their £12,000 target.

The team have developed MARS Charity wristbands that are now on sale in the club and at other locations around the county, they are a bargain at only £1 and look great.

The team are also currently organising a charity auction for the appeal where they have some great auction lots up for grabs – the event will be taking place at The Bell Inn, Bosbury on Thursday 8th August – spread the word as it is set to be a great night.

If you see the team training out on the field at Wye Leisure, feel free to give us a wave.

£12,000 is an ambitous target to reach, but hopefully by doing this, not only will MARS be able to purchase stae of the art life saving equipment, it will also increase general awareness of the Charity – Ben Scott (Team M.A.R.S)

It sounds like it could be painful, but I couldn’t say no! – Dr. Malcom Russell

Wye Leisure are proud to be one of the main sponsors for the Team M.A.R.S Tough Mudder Challenege 2013 raising money for Mercia Accident Rescue Service – a local charity comprising of a small number of highly skilled medical practitioners who attend medical and trauma emergencies across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, typically complex road traffic collisions and entrapments.

There are five in the MARS Tough Mudder Team: Doctor Malcolm Russell (MARS), Ben Scott (Wye Leisure), David Gordon (Wye Leisure), Neil Gordon (Wye Leisure) and Marcus Billig (Manufacturing Manager for the Herefordshire Cider Company).

They have set themselves the daunting task of taking part in Tough Mudder 2013 a 10-12 mile military designed obstacle course consisting of mud, water, ropes, walls, electric shocks and fire.

The event is on Saturday 21st September set in Glanusk Estate in the Black Mountains.

MARS provides their service free of charge but is critically reliant on charitable donations to train and equip its practitioners in order to provide world class therapy to patients with acutely life threatening conditions.

Our aim is to raise £12,000 for cutting edge pre-hospital ultrasound equipment, which will only be used in the communities we live and serve. This will further help diagnose injuries earlier and provide our community with a highest quality of service.

Donations can be made online at http://www.justgiving.com/toughmudder-mars

Or please visit www.marsbasics.org.uk/toughmudder for more information.

Thank you for your support!!

Please feel free to Contact Us if you have any questions about M.A.R.S or the Tough Mudder Challenge

Woolhope Shelton Cup Winners 2013

It has truly been a memorable season and picking up 2 pieces of silverware was the icing on the cake – Jamie Lawson (Player / Manager WAFC)

Wye Leisure is proud to announce its continued support to the Woolhope Allstars FC who have had a fantasic year – We asked Jamie Lawson (Allstars player / manager) to say a few words about the past year…

* * * * *

This season we as a club are proud to say that we are double cup winners having prospered in the Shelton Cup final and respectivley won the League.  This is such a great achievment from everyone at the club with the goal at the start of the season to secure the double we can safely say we kept our promise and delivered the goods.

Ledbury pushed us all the way during the season but quality in the squad shined through in tough times towards the end of the season.  Cup Success was was very new to the team and we handled the pressure very well in front of a massive crowd at Westfields FC eventually running out 3-1 winners.  Credit must go to all of the squad who have represented Woolhope Allstars FC throughout the season and of course the management of Andy Jones who has made a massive difference in the club reaching the heights that’s expected of them.  He has installed some much needed discipline and experience in this young side.  Top marksman Cory Hyde is run away leader of the golden boot on a massive 52 goals. Could he beat the record of 59 set by Justin Halfpenny last season? Only time will tell but we are very confident.

Also we would like to thank everyone associated with the club, from Matt and The Crown Inn for there excellent hospitality after every home game, the away teams truly love making the trip out to Woolhope.  As well as the hospitality a great thank you to Wye Leisure for their continuing support of the club behind the scenes.  Always making sure we have smart kit and represent the club in the best way we can.
