Fownhope Church held a Christmas Tree Festival over the weekend and Wye Leisure was asked if we would like to sponsor and decorate a tree! Ben and Tom spent last week preparing decorations (a lot of which were hand made) and then decorated the tree last Friday. The church held a cheese and wine evening on Friday and people have been able to attend since. What a marvelous sight and variety of tree decorations on show! Here are a few pictures of the Wye Leisure Tree (Our theme was “Christmas Markets”):
All of Martha’s hard work putting on the Christmas Beauty Fayre with her trusty Elves and colleagues, Gail and Katie, shone through in an event enjoyed by all who attended. Here are a few pictures before anyone turned up:
Cottontails will be at the Christmas Beauty Fair at Wye Leisure, Fownhope on Thursday 4-7pm. As most members will know, we do try hard to maintain the clubs facilities. We decided earlier in the year that it’s about time we gave the Fitness Suite a bit of TLC! In April this year we had a lovely trip across to Europe’s largest fitness industry trade show, where it was very apparent that Technogym are still world leaders in fitness equipment.
Yesterday (5th November 15) we kick-started plans to rejuvenate the fitness suite, visiting the UK headquarters of Technogym, choosing equipment and discussing upgrades that will enhance your experience in the gym. We haven’t confirmed dates as yet, but will update members over the next couple of months as to when you may expect changes to happen.

Sue is our newest instructor undertaking Pilates classes in our studios. We give her a big welcome and we’re sure she we will be welcomed by members in their classes. We have written a few words about Sue below…
After studying Anatomy & Physiology and then Sports Therapy, Sue became involved in health and fitness. Now with over 20 years experience Sue teaches Spin, 50 plus, Legs Bum and Tums, Circuits, Fitball Core Stability and of course Pilates.
In 2007 after attending courses such as Managing Back Pain, Movement Screening and Promoting Active Living with Chronic Pain, she became interested in Pilates and the benefits of practising.
Sue works in Ross and Ledbury delivering Pilates and specialises in classes for Multiple Sclerosis clients and also Cardiac Rehabilitation and now undertakes Pilates classes here at Wye Leisure.
We’ve decided to have a change of beers in the Terrace Bar and now stock two crackers, from the Purity Brewing Company
Pure UBU & Purity Lawless Lager
Why not pop in after your workout and spoil yourself
Olly, one of our instructors, is planning his very first Spinathon in November, in memory of his Father who passed away in 2011 aged 52, after a long battle with Leukaemia. To honour his memory, Olly is holding a 10 hour Spinathon (10 back to back classes), to raise as much money as possible for St Michael’s Hospice and Leukaemia Research!
It’s a sad farewell to Meriel one of our Pilates instructors at the club as she has been offered a fulltime position within the world of bikes… an area close to her heart and her dream job.
We wish her all the best and thank her for her time here, she will be greatly missed!
Unfortunately, in the meantime (despite our best efforts), we have not been able to find a replacement instructor for the Friday 9.30am class. Meriel is helping out for a few weeks, to keep things going in the short-term. And hope to pull something “out of the bag” so to speak and have a few instructors to see over the next few weeks, but there may be a few weeks where we have no cover and the class may not go ahead. Rest assured we will continue to burn the midnight oil until we have the class covered!
It is with great regret that we have made the decision to start a phased reduction on discounts given across all current corporate schemes. This decision has not be made lightly and know it may be met with some upset, however we feel to ensure the future of the club and with ever increasing overheads, that these discounts can no longer continue. As always we like to be open and honest, which is why we are giving members on any scheme six months’ notice of tariff changes. If you are enquiring about discount as a prospective member, unfortunately all scheme membership discounts are now closed for new applications.
This morning saw a new Air Handling Unit arrive at the club that will eventually service the air in pool hall 1 (The family pool hall). The supplying company managed to squeeze their crane into position in the disabled car park and no closure of the club was required. The weather aided a smooth lift with everything going to plan and was finished by lunch time. We’re still running on the old fans for a few more says, while they duct up the new unit and wire it in, but we are excited to get it going. The commissioning of this unit almost finalises our maintenance plan for this year, hopefully showing our committed investment into our facilities and the future of Wye Leisure.
To accommodate a few tile replacements we will be closing the Hydro Spa Pool on Sunday (at 4.00pm), to drain down the system and get ready for patching up areas where tiles have come off. All going well, we’ll have it filled and heated ready for Tuesday morning, fingers crossed. All other areas of the club will be open as normal.
Closed from 4.00pm Sunday 13th September
Re-Open Tuesday 15th September
Many thanks in advance for your understanding and patience whilst we undertake these works
Please note that we are moving the Thursday morning aqua aerobics classes to a Friday. This will start from this Friday, the 4th of September. The two morning classes will now be held on:
Martha has been clearing out her cupboards and has some really special HALF PRICE offers on our final remaining Nailtiques Gift Sets. These are ideal presents or just a great way of saying I Love You, Thank you or may be just to spoil yourself!!

The company who sorts out our booking system and the SMS Text reminders have been working away at an issue over the past 4/5 days. Many members and guest may know that our systems have been sending out loads of texts to remind customers of their appointments. Many thanks to a couple of members who brought this to our attention last Thursday night, as each text costs us about 4 pence!!
Oliver (The IT man who writes the script) and Tom have been busy testing and now think they’ve cracked it… Fingers crossed, that is! HOWEVER, please let us know if you are still getting more than one SMS Text reminder for each class and we’ll have to re-think…
Great News… The StarTrac engineer is on-site and undertaking our first Spinning® Bike service. New pads throughout, a little adjustment here and there… A well needed service at that, due to the punishment everyone is giving them! Keep it up people!!
All should be Ship-Shape for nights class!
And now the Spa Pool is back open once again!!
Everything is now working and open! Yes, we do have a spot of tiling to carry on with, but will get on with that over the following months. When re-opening the spa, we noted that one of the relays controlling the pumps has seemed to have stopped working, but none of this will stop you from using the facilities… All is OPEN!
