TOUGH MUDDER –
TEAM M.A.R.S Training Update
With just under 3 months to go until the event, the team are stepping up their training efforts. Not only are the team training individually on a daily basis, once a week they are meeting and training as a team, challenging themselves with cross country runs, tabata training and circuits to try and prepare themselves for what has to come on the day.
Fundraising attempts are also coming along well with the Team almost half way there to their £12,000 target.
The team have developed MARS Charity wristbands that are now on sale in the club and at other locations around the county, they are a bargain at only £1 and look great.
The team are also currently organising a charity auction for the appeal where they have some great auction lots up for grabs – the event will be taking place at The Bell Inn, Bosbury on Thursday 8th August – spread the word as it is set to be a great night.
If you see the team training out on the field at Wye Leisure, feel free to give us a wave.
£12,000 is an ambitous target to reach, but hopefully by doing this, not only will MARS be able to purchase stae of the art life saving equipment, it will also increase general awareness of the Charity – Ben Scott (Team M.A.R.S)
Try and beat your own time and your fellow gym buddies!
Every week gym staff are now taking the opportunity to put together a different weekly circuit routine based on using equipment found within our fitness suite.
The Weekly Workout is designed to be a hi-intensity workout lasting for about 15 minutes and is monitored by a gym staff member, after which the gym staff will display your time on the gym wall for other club members to try and beat!
The Weekly Workout is great for those people looking to find an alternative to their normal workout routine and really gets the heart racing!
Grab your girlfriends and join the St Michael’s gang for the 2013 Venus Midnight Walk. Beginning and ending at the Point4 the 10k walk will take you on a loop through the city of Hereford. It’s night so be bright and raid the fancy dress box to make sure you’re seen.
Wye Leisure is proud to be supporting St Michael’s once more by providing a complete spa day for the team raising the most money for the event
Everyone getting involved will have different reasons for doing the Venus Midnight Walk, click here to find out why one of last year’s teams took part. If you are walking in memory of someone special there is the opportunity to remember them by lighting a candle in a special memory bag or by placing a message onto the Venus Memory Tree.
2012’s walk raised more than £35,000 in vital funds for St Michael’s Hospice
It sounds like it could be painful, but I couldn’t say no! – Dr. Malcom Russell
Wye Leisure are proud to be one of the main sponsors for the Team M.A.R.S Tough Mudder Challenege 2013 raising money for Mercia Accident Rescue Service – a local charity comprising of a small number of highly skilled medical practitioners who attend medical and trauma emergencies across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, typically complex road traffic collisions and entrapments.
There are five in the MARS Tough Mudder Team: Doctor Malcolm Russell (MARS), Ben Scott (Wye Leisure), David Gordon (Wye Leisure), Neil Gordon (Wye Leisure) and Marcus Billig (Manufacturing Manager for the Herefordshire Cider Company).
They have set themselves the daunting task of taking part in Tough Mudder 2013 a 10-12 mile military designed obstacle course consisting of mud, water, ropes, walls, electric shocks and fire.
The event is on Saturday 21st September set in Glanusk Estate in the Black Mountains.
MARS provides their service free of charge but is critically reliant on charitable donations to train and equip its practitioners in order to provide world class therapy to patients with acutely life threatening conditions.
Our aim is to raise £12,000 for cutting edge pre-hospital ultrasound equipment, which will only be used in the communities we live and serve. This will further help diagnose injuries earlier and provide our community with a highest quality of service.
Donations can be made online at http://www.justgiving.com/toughmudder-mars

It has truly been a memorable season and picking up 2 pieces of silverware was the icing on the cake – Jamie Lawson (Player / Manager WAFC)

This season we as a club are proud to say that we are double cup winners having prospered in the Shelton Cup final and respectivley won the League. This is such a great achievment from everyone at the club with the goal at the start of the season to secure the double we can safely say we kept our promise and delivered the goods.
Ledbury pushed us all the way during the season but quality in the squad shined through in tough times towards the end of the season. Cup Success was was very new to the team and we handled the pressure very well in front of a massive crowd at Westfields FC eventually running out 3-1 winners. Credit must go to all of the squad who have represented Woolhope Allstars FC throughout the season and of course the management of Andy Jones who has made a massive difference in the club reaching the heights that’s expected of them. He has installed some much needed discipline and experience in this young side. Top marksman Cory Hyde is run away leader of the golden boot on a massive 52 goals. Could he beat the record of 59 set by Justin Halfpenny last season? Only time will tell but we are very confident.
Also we would like to thank everyone associated with the club, from Matt and The Crown Inn for there excellent hospitality after every home game, the away teams truly love making the trip out to Woolhope. As well as the hospitality a great thank you to Wye Leisure for their continuing support of the club behind the scenes. Always making sure we have smart kit and represent the club in the best way we can.

Date: Sunday 28th of April 2013
Venue: Fownhope New Memorial Hall
Time: All Day – Presentation of trophies at 16:00hrs approx
Last year’s winners were a “Mix ‘n Match” team (Combined Hereford and Hants) who have chosen this years charities to be the Hereford and Worcester Air Ambulance and the Second Chance Animal Sanctuary in Southampton.
Refreshments – Tea, Coffee and Cakes served throughout the day, with all proceeds going to the charities.
As part of our on-going maintenance to the club we have recently finished an over-haul to both steam rooms at Wye Leisure. Both the adult and family area steam rooms have been re-grouted and the flooring replaced. In the adults only pool hall we have also renewed the flooring on the slope leading down to the steam room, sauna and showers which was also warn.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members for their co-operation whilst these works were undertaken.
This year we are making a change to the way we organise our Bar-B-Q nights and want to make sure all our members and guests are aware of the new system.
As we progress through summer and autum we will select evenings based on the weather forecasts approximately 3-4 days prior. Once the date is set (and fingers crossed the weather holds), we will then send out an email to everyone who is a newsletter subscriber advertising the night.
In previous years we have found pinning our hopes on just a Friday evenings too specific and hope that this way we may be able guarantee some better weather?
If you dont already receive our newsletter and want to receive notification of the BBQ’s then please click on the link below to signup and we will make sure you know each time the weather permits!
Bar-B-Ques are open to members and non-members alike
On evenings where we are serving the BBQ menu we would not normally offer the normal menu in the Terrace Bar. But we will make everyone aware of this when booking!
The BBQ Menu is designed to be, and is served in a very informal way! Hopefully something like you may do in your own garden, just with out the washing-up!
